Batteries
The best a battery can become...

Safety tests - all passed with top marks. Only for Open Light Systems!
For your safety, we have tested all of our battery packs under the standards of the so-called "UN transportation test". We have spared no expense and spent the approximate value of a small car for simulations in regards to safety. As a result, all of our batteries have passed this test with distinction. The series of tests lasts for seven days without a break. If we cannot break the battery in the testing phase, we feel confident that it will not break when you need it most!


Test 1: Altitude Simulation
This test simulates air transport under real conditions, eg for aircraft transport.

Test 2: Thermal Test
This test assesses if the cells of the battery can withstand very high and very low thermal exposures over a long time. The test is performed with the use of rapid changes in extreme heat/ cold temperature.

Test 3: Vibration Test
This test simulates vibration during transport / application. We do this so you can always be sure that your light won’t go off when you go through the roughest downhill section on your bike.

Test 4: Shock / Bump test
This test simulates possible impacts during transport / application because the last thing you want after you take a spill is to be stranded in the dark.

Test 5: External Short Circuit Test
This test simulates an external short circuit.

Test 6: Impact / Impact Testing
This test simulates an impact on the rechargeable cells.

Test 7: Overcharge / Overload test
This test assesses the ability of a rechargeable battery to withstand overload conditions.

Test 8: Forced Discharge Test
This test demonstrates the ability of a primary cell or a rechargeable cell to withstand a forced discharge.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
We have thoroughly tested the built-in protection circuit electronic on all our batteries and were given proof that there is no interference or electromagnetic effects coming from our products. It was confirmed that our products will not disturb your other technical equipment for use in any way. Here you will find the test result and find more information on the EMC test.
Li-ion cells

Best Brand Cells
We always use the best available Lithium Ion cells on the market. Currently these are Li-Ion cells from the worldwide market leader Panasonic. Since Panasonic acquired Sanyo in 2009, there is no way around Panasonic in terms of the highest quality. The quality is better than Sanyo cells, in terms of the energy density, cold insensitivity to -13 ° F and the self-discharge which is less than 10% a year.

Selected cells
All of our battery packs come with pre-selected premium cells from Panasonic because we always want our customers to get the best product possible. Although this means higher costs for us, it ensures you to have a battery pack that will last longer than you expect OEM batteries to last.

Made in Germany - Best Quality in Production
Our battery packs are pre-manufactured in Germany by the company Batterien-Montage-Zentrum GmbH (http://www.bmz-gmbh.de) in Karlstein am Main. BMZ is Europe's leading systems supplier of battery packs and understands the quality manufacture of battery packs like no other. You as a customer, therefore, will always be on the safe side. The final assembly, including the waterproof sealing, is completed in our factory in Montana, where we also make all final quality control checks on each and every battery.

Control
Every step is checked several times. This ensures that each battery is fully charged, absolutely water tight, and safe, as the customer expects.

Compatibility
Our batteries and chargers are all compatible with the products from original manufacturers. Our batteries e.g. for Lupine can thus be operated with all original lamp heads and Lupine Li-Ion chargers. Thanks to the outer solder the battery cable can be re-soldered without dissassembling the battery pack.
Safety Electronics Board (PCB)

Our Own Custom Design - Made in Germany
Our protective circuit board is specifically and exclusively manufactured for us. It is developed by our engineers and is specially tailored to the individual electronics of each lamp manufacturer and the battery cells of our battery packs. The protection circuit is manufactured in Germany and fitted with pre-selected and highest-quality components.

Charge Safely
The battery is secured by a protection circuit board (PCB) with regard to deep discharge, overcharge, short circuit, incorrect charging and polarity reversal. If one of these cases apply, it disables the protection circuit in a fraction of a millisecond, the battery, which can be activated again after repairing the source of interference problems on the charger. Our protective circuit is specifically and exclusively manufactured for us. It is designed by our engineers and is tailored specifically to the electronics of the Lupine lights.

Optimal Charge
To ensure optimal coordination between the chargers, cells, lamps and protection electronics, we developed our own PCB. This enables us to provide our customers a high-class product that is manufactured entirely in Germany.
Chargers

Good and Affordable
At Open Light Systems you do not have to spend $120 for a charger that includes all of the features that you need. Since Li-ion battery packs should never be discharged (as this shortens the battery life), our chargers only do what you want them to do: charge batteries - and they do it with Open Light System's highest quality and safety standards!

The charge current is 1.8A, which is perfectly adequate and will help to boost the life span of your battery in comparison to charging it with higher currents.

Charging Control
The charger is microprocessor controlled and has a built-in intelligent battery management, which allows the battery to charge quickly, safely and gently. This always provides full charges at unsurpassed quality and safety.
